Thatcher wins Cox Classic by a shot

07/29/2007 - Omaha, NE (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Roland Thatcher closed with a scrambling par at the 18th hole Sunday to win the Nationwide Tour's Cox Classic.

Thatcher shot a six-under 65 in the final round to end at 24-under 260, edging talented youngster Jason Day for his third career Nationwide Tour title and second this season.

He also won the Peek'n Peak Classic earlier this month.

Day fired an eight-under 63 on Sunday, forcing Thatcher to make par at the 18th hole by closing the final round with a birdie. The 19-year-old Australian finished alone in second place at 23-under 261.

Vance Veazey shot a 64 and took third place at 20-under 264, one stroke in front of Richard Swift (65), Jason Enloe (66), Martin Laird (66) and Ron Whittaker (67).
