11/03/2007 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Andre Iguodala scored 22 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out six assists to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to an impressive road win over the Chicago Bulls, 96-85, at the United Center.
Andre Miller had 25 points, Samuel Dalembert added 14 and 11 rebounds, while Reggie Evans contributed nine points, nine rebounds and four steals as the Sixers recovered from an opening night loss at Toronto to gain their first win of the season.
Ben Gordon led Chicago with 25 points and Tyrus Thomas went for 21 and 12 rebounds, but the Bulls were outworked on the glass, 55-36, and got just 18 points combined from Kirk Hinrich and Luol Deng on their way to a second straight loss to open the 2007-08 campaign.
Their lead trimmed to 82-80 with under six minutes to go, Philly responded by outscoring Chicago 14-5 to ensure the win. They rotated the ball around from Willie Green to Iguodala to Dalembert, who flushed it for a dunk. Iguodala stripped Deng on the next possession, triggering a break that Green finished with a three-point play to make it 87-80. Hinrich followed his own missed free throw to cut the lead to 87-83, but Iguodala scored the final eight Philly points, starting when he banked in a shot that appeared to be a pass, and then hit a fadeaway jumper from the right elbow to give the Sixers a 92-85 lead with under a minute to go.
Philly used its defensive energy to overcome shaky shooting and a rash of turnovers in the first quarter, and led 28-20 as the period came to a close thanks to a Kyle Korver three from the corner on a skip pass from Lou Williams.
Chicago sleepwalked through much of the second quarter and the poor shooting continued, but they pulled within four with 1:30 remaining in the half on an Andres Nocioni layup, then cut the Sixers lead to 41-39 on another putback from Thomas. After Miller hit one of two free throws, Chris Duhon responded with a lefty lay-in to cap a 12-3 Chicago run that closed out the half, and the Sixers lead was just 42-41 going into the locker room.
The Bulls finally pulled even at 55-55 on Thomas' jumper from the right wing midway through the third, but Philly quickly scored four straight to regain the advantage.
A mini-spirt at the end of the period then gave Philly a 10-point lead heading into the fourth. Evans used the glass with his left hand to make it 67-61, then Jason Smith corralled a loose ball and fed Iguodala for two. Gordon came down and fired a misguided shot with less than 10 seconds remaining, allowing Green to take an outlet pass and break out for a dunk and a 71-61 edge.
Deng hit a three and then spun into the lane for a floater, and the Bulls pulled back to 82-77 with more less than six minutes to go. Nocioni then hit from the top of the arc to pull the Bulls within two, forcing a Sixers timeout.
Game Notes
Iguodala scored 11 of his 22 in the fourth quarter...Evans has 24 rebounds in his first two games...Chicago shot just 38.4 percent (33-for-86) from the floor, including 7-for-24 from three-point range...The two teams combined for 36 turnovers...Philly made 1-of-11 three-pointers; their starters scored 83 of 96 points.

With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship. Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92. After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points. Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1. Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years. With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed. UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern. Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier. OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak. Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four. It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta. But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.
